They have a great beer menu with a lot of different beers but the prices are very very high. The food is OK but nothing special and again it is very very expensive. I'll come here again but not for a long time. This place can really put a dent in your wallet.

Good refreshing beer and ok wine selection. I love their brunch menu and feel like their chefs are open to special requests. The menu has lots of choices with rich flavors. Great addition to Sauk Rapids.

I had the black and blue steak. It is bar the worst steak I have ever had. I go there a lot and the food quality is getting really poor.

I went to this tavern few weeks ago and I wasn't disappointed. The beer selection was impressive. The bartender suggested some great beers. I had the 4 alarm pigs butt BBQ sandwich which had great smokey flavor and right amount of heat. Service was great and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this establishment to anyone except if you want an ordinary meal.

Great Fish Tacos... Best I have had since CA. Very good beer selection and Friendly staff.

I am in love with this place, it is something this town has been missing. A craft beer place with a fantastic menu. While this place only recently opened (and as a result the menu and prices are expanding and settling a bit) it is worth the prices. My only wish is that it was a bit bigger :) with the attention it has received come early to get your spot!

We were in town for my cousins wedding and needed a good place to grab a lunch. There were 8-10 people with us and the service was great! The beer selection is top notch and they had a very impressive whiskey selection as well. The food was the real star though. Not one person at the table had anything bad! I had the pork gorgonzola burger and it was great. My girlfriend had the Lamb Burger and really enjoyed it also. The other star was the bloody mary menu. All the ladies had one and loved them! Definately go here for a great meal and cool atmosphere with delicious beer!

We have enjoyed both the food and tap beers each time we have visited. They always have great soup! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable both on the menu and beer list. They have an extensive beer list. Our favorite so far has been the Widmer Pitch Black IPA.

Absolutely love this place, I don't even know where to start!!! It is so refreshing to see an authentic establishment within the chain restaurant hell of St. Cloud. Amazing craft beer selection (52 selections on tap) and a fabulous variety for mixed cocktails as well. I cannot praise the staff enough, as they are absolutely wonderful!! This place is definitely at the top of my list and I highly recommend putting it your list of places to check out. As mentioned earlier, the staff are great and always eager to take care of you whether your a new face or frequent patron. I love that the menu leans toward the adventurous side and although new and still perfecting their dishes and menu, they have some great options....My absolute fave so far is the Thai Shrimp appetizer. I noticed that the biggest gripe for people seem to be the prices....REALLY!!??? Yeah, it's not exactly cheap but it's by no means unreasonable for the product and service...Stay home if you cannot afford to go out and enjoy a GOOD beer/cocktail, meal and service (once again I blame the chain restaurant effect...YUCK...go back to Applebee's or wherever). I say 4 stars because any new establishment has it's work areas but so far very satisfied as a weekly customer. Best tip....Friday and Saturday nights seem to be extremely busy so arrive early or choose a different day/time for the best experience.

You have got to be joking? Went to Old Capital Grill last Friday evening for the first time. The service was TERRIBLE. Slow and all the employee's were too busy chatting and playing around behind the bar to service any tables. This place might be ok for an overpriced beer, if sitting at the bar, but as far as a restaurant they need some serious lessons in customer service. The lowlight of the dinner was the $11 Chorizo nachos that came COLD didn't even have chorizo sausage on them but rather beef, my 7 year old could make better nachos than this restaurant. I won't be back and give this place a short shelf life. The prices for what you receive is a JOKE too bad the joke was on my wallet.

Fantastic food (I still dream of a certain salad with candies walnuts and goat cheese), friendly staff, and amazing craft beer selection (50 taps! What!). For a new building, the atmosphere is decent, but we definitely dine here for the food and drink options. For the craft beer and good food crowd, this is on of the best two places in the St. Cloud area.

  • Celeste M.

Wow. Thai shrimp, 4 Alarm pulled pork and kangaroo medallions were amazing. Andy and Eva were terrific staff. Well worth the deviation off highway 10!

  • Alex R.

Very expensive. It would have gotten 5 stars but the prices are way out of line especially for the area. A beer will set you back 5.50 or more. A chicken salad is 16 bucks and so is an order of 2 small fish tacos or a meat loaf sandwich. Service is really good and they have 40 beers maybe more. I want to support this nice new place but at these prices I don't see myself coming here more than a few times a year

Too expensive, weak service, terrible food! I was with my family of 5 and we were heading back from the lake and super hungry. My husband and I both ordered fish tacos...a favorite for both of us. We were so disappointed. It was like chewing on a dry towel. The cod was over fried to the point where you couldn't even find the fish if you peeled away the breading. The corn tortilla must have sat out for a while because it, too, was inedibly dry. Good thing they have over 50 beers on tap. We needed a cold beverage to choke the food down. If you go there with kids, you may find it hard to order for them. Unless your kids like hot pigs ass nachos, pulled pork, or lamb burger, you will find the menu not very kid friendly. They DO have a kids menu, but it is not in print. We were only reluctantly told the 3 options after inquiring. My three all chose chicken strips. Mediocre. Finally, while the atmosphere was pleasant and the place was very clean, our service was not great. I would have said it was fine until we waited over 15 after our plates were cleared and our beverages were gone to get our tab.

Awful. Tried many dishes, terrible amounts of filling in the sandwiches, with no bold flavors. Probably the worst food for the money ive had, awfully expensive.

Best place in the St. Cloud area for great craft beers and fantastic food. Every time we've gone there the food has been amazing. Don't forget to try the fish tacos if you are a fan.

Great beer and booze selection! Food was fast *and* homemade, a tough combo to pull off! I had the Reuben. Fantastic! Worth a stop on your way north to the cabin.

  • Jason R.

I'm a New Yorker and was really impressed. Fresh inventive. of course great drinks and craft beer but the salads, sandwiches and entrees were about the best I've even had in the St. Cloud area. These guys are doing a great job. Will be back again for sure. Service was great, fast a friendly.

  • Roger L.

Had the salmon Caesar salad again , this time is was prepared slightly different , last time it was pieces of fish on it with the dressing mixed in. Today it was shredded salmon with the dressing on the side. Amazing flavor and mix of warm and cool food.

First let me say that the service was very good. However the food was not. We typically order the pork Gorgonzola sandwich. It is one of our favorites and it is usually very tasty. Well it was not tasty this time. Both my husband and I felt like the burger had a very odd taste to it. We think the pork might've been spoiled because it tasted sour and yucky. This really bums us out. Not sure we'll be back anytime soon.

The porketta sandwich was awesome!!! Always great service and love the ever-changing beer selection :-)

Excellent place to go for food, and drinks. I was never disappointed on the food. Always awesome lunch specials, and the best bloody mary I ever had. Beer selection is amazing. Great place to take a date, or dinner with friends. Staff is very friendly. A must place to go if you're not from the area and looking for a place to eat.

get the duck legs!!! Actually, everything I've ordered has always been fantastic, but the duck legs are amazing!

I will return to theOld Capital Tavern again (and most likely again and again...) 50 beers on tap, food was awesome! Had tortellini soup and that should have been my meal in itself, But I ordered pork nachos and they were also a meal in itself! Only reason I didn't give it five stars was it was so busy service was a little lacking... Wild give 4.5 if I could as bar tender noticed and came out to wait on me. As I started I finish, I will return!

  • Jenna B.

Soooo many amazing drinks, but the food...it's awful. I don't mind paying for quality ingredients, and a chef trained to make a plate. However, the food here is overpriced. The menu options are scarce.

There's a lot to like about Old Capital Tavern. First of all, if you're a beer fan, I can't imagine that you'd ever run out of beers to try at this place given all that they have on tap. The selection is pretty incredible. The service has always been great, with attentive waitresses/waiters who are friendly, but don't get too chatty. The antique bar atmosphere is fun, and there's some available seating outside if that's your thing. The food...I've never been disappointed. My favorite is their Old Capital Reuben. Made with large chunks of actual corned beef (not sliced corned beef or pastrami) and grilled to perfection, this has been my go-to item. Of the times I've had it, I was slightly disappointed in it once because it seemed like they skimped on the corned beef compared to the other times I've been there, but it's still a dish I return to time and again. My wife recently had their Old Capital Philly and really liked it. It has a kick, with some hot peppers on it. Their seasoned fries are delicious as well, some of the best I've had anywhere. Another great thing is that the food is always served hot. It's not left to sit on your plate before being served. This is a huge plus. Unfortunately, they're no longer serving the other item that I really enjoyed there. They used to have a frog leg appetizer with a spicy sauce to go with them. These frog legs were like mini chicken drummies. They had a fair amount of meat, and yes, they tasted like chicken. I wish they were still one the menu. They are serving duck legs now, but I haven't tried those. This is a great place to come with a date or with friends. It's pretty hopping after work, and can get quite loud. Just be aware of that... it might not be a place for a quiet, intimate conversation. I highly recommend it. Be prepared to pay a bit more, both for your drinks and the food, but it's definitely worth it.

My husband said " you have to put that they have the best Reuben I've ever eaten". So there you have it. If you're a Reuben sandwich kind of person, this place has been approved by my husband the Reuben sandwich aficionado lol. This was our first time at the Old Capital Tavern and it won't be our last. I am a Cuban Sandwich aficionado and I will say it's pretty darn good. My bred was too saturated with grease/ bitter so it didn't have the crunch of a presses sandwich but other than that it was good. The fries were pretty delicious too. Overall. The ambiance was different, in a good way and felt like an escape from the everyday St.Cloud area scene. I recommend you try this place for something out of the norm. I can't comment on beers unfortunately but seems they have several options to choose from.

Old Capitol Tavern is one of the only places in St. Cloud to get a fabulous salad, unique food and superb beer. Every time we come, we are delighted by the drink options; they are updating their drink menu all the time. The lettuce wraps and pigs ass nachos are great. The hearty dinner meals (meatloaf is amazing) and meaty sandwiches are all filling as well. But if you like salads, all of theirs are top notch. A true gem in a restaurant desert.

Was exactly what I expected from the Yelp reviews and pictures sent! Pros: 1. Loved the decor and atmosphere 2. Food was incredible 3. Selection of beer impressive Cons: 1. We must have had a new waiter because he either could not hear us (to most of our questions he just smiled and nodded), or he was so new/nervous, he didn't know what to say. 2. Though I made 2 requests to have condiments on the side, both my salad and later the house special, the Reuben, both came with them already applied - uggghh!

Great food! Great Drink! Service was outstanding. Drink never got empty. Food came out fast and looked and tasted great. Next time I'm in town I will be back. You have to try the FOUR ALARM PIG ASS BBQ. You'll love it!

  • Tracy A.

Food was really good! I had the rib eye steak sandwich and fries. The ribeye is an actual steak. So good! And only $12. Fab! Only downfall is the "patio" was 2 tables on the sidewalk. Bummer. I really wanted a real patio. It's sort of a busy street and the railroad is being worked on and dinged the entire 2 hours! Lol!

We were passing through town and wanted to have a sit down meal. Glad I took a friend's advice to eat here with my family! Corned beef hash, Reuben and chicken tenders for the kiddos - all delicious! Large servings and great service. What a gem just off HWY 10!

One of the best kept secrets (until now I guess) in St. Cloud. Just over the river in Sauk Rapids, Old Capital Tavern has some of the finest food in the area. I particularly like the pulled pork and wife likes the fish tacos. Amazing beer and whiskey selection. Staff very knowledgeable about food and drink. May seem a little pricey but pretty in line with similar restaurants in St. Cloud area. It is a small place that fills up quick but if you happen to get a table it will be well worth a visit!

I can't speak for the alcohol selection it is famous for, but as for the food, it's fantastic! I've been multiple times, for lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch. Food is flavorful and high quality. I haven't had anything I didn't like yet! Staff is friendly and attentive. Love this place!

Was in St Cloud for a few days on business. Actually ended up here two nights in a row. Absolutely loved this place. 50 beers on tap, with a good portion being locally crafted beers. Food was outstanding as well. I had the Gorgonzola Pork Burger both nights (it was that good). The fries were fantastic as well. Apart from the beer and food being excellent, the bartenders were as well. Was greeted both nights by very friendly bartenders who offered samples of different beers based on my tastes, and both seemed very knowledgeable about beer in general. Both nights I went here, I sat at the bar. They were weeknights, and as such the place was not that busy at all. Very low key, so I sat at the bar drinking my beer and reading a book. Exactly the kind of place I look for when I want to relax. Will definitely come back here next time I'm in the area.

There are SO many beers on tap and the staff is very knowledgeable about all of them! The lamb burger is to die for. We have always had fast and friendly service as well as delicious food no matter what! I was fortunate enough to meet one of the owners who was an Iraq war veteran (GO AMERICA! ) and we were able to have a beer and trade war stories. He was truly a nice man. I am so happy ro see an establishment of this caliber in Sauk Rapids! I will keep coming back every time I come home on leave! Keep it up guys!

This place is unique to Central Minnesota, but it would be right at home in the downtown area of any major American city. The decor is that of a tastefully classic neighborhood bar/grill with a relaxing, casual atmosphere. It is usually busy, but quiet and family friendly. The simple menu features upmarket gourmet comfort foods. It is difficult to choose between the tempting options. I have not had a bland bite in four visits. The main feature is a beautiful bar which offers a variety of craft beers and high end whiskey choices. The attention to quality bar beverages, however, needs to be extended to the libations for non-drinkers as the coffee is rather insipid. That was the only disappointment during a recent brunch visit.

Generally,I would classify this as a true home run. The food is great and the beer selection is vast. Stick with their regular fair though. I tried their pork tenderloin special at the suggestion of our server and I couldn't have been more disappointed. I knew I was in trouble when the server brought my dinner out and started to apologize for it. Actually shouldn't have ever left the kitchen. Why not slam this restaurant? Simply because their go to menu is absolutely tdf. I will come back and won't be as excited to try their "new thing ".

  • Chad D.

Wonderful beer selection which will make me give them another chance. I love the atmosphere and style of this place but on my first and only visit I found our server to be, at times, passive-aggressive and condescending. Maybe she was having a bad night but part of me wanted to remind her that we are in Sauk Rapids - not Minneapolis. I had the dry rub wings which were just deep fried wings with Lowry's seasoning on them - not what I have come to learn that dry rub is. I didn't finish them. One of my friends had a salad that she loved and another had BBQ chicken that was very good.

FOOD IS GREAT!! I've been here twice now and both times I thought the food was excellent. The catfish hash is to die for!! AMAZING!! I haven't had any food that was bad here. The beer selection is obviously great. The beer is not very cheap, even on happy hour. But I get what they are trying to do... so if you are looking for a $2 bud light for a HH, this isn't the place for you. But if you want to try some interesting beer and have some awesome food, try this place.

This was a hit with all six of us who were pleased with food and beverages. Gluten free buns available. Beet salad highly recommended. Cajun catfish hash -better than it sounds! 50+ craft beers in tap. Scotch and bourbon menu!

  • Anthony S.

Just amazing. So many great beers and drink choices. Even had a plain bloody mary and it was great. Just make sure to ask for a plain one if that's the all you want or they have to charge more. Then the food. And the fries! Just fries and gravy from the awesome good meatloaf is enough to go back for. Seriously go here. And the service was great. A small place but sat on a big table with another couple. No issue to good Scandinavian/German people

  • Evan D.

This place is clean and well kept. They have an excellent beer selection if that is your thing. Their ambition seems to exceed their ability in regard to service and sophistication. The menu is not as palatable as it sounds. The best items are not created in house. The drinks I've always found to be weak. While I don't suggest they overpour, a correctly mixed drink would be enough to keep me coming for a nice, quiet place to socialize. I've been several times with friends who like it more than myself. I've found consistently the service seems a bit slow and contrite. I don't award it the prestige they have bestowed upon themselves. I'm sure I'll end up there again. It is a good option among the local establishments. It's a bit presumptuous, but where else might one go in Sauk Rapids?

  • Samik R.

Overall great experience here. I started the evening with a Moscow mule, that not only came in a traditional copper cup, but was made well and had this delicious gingery sour patch kid-esque garnish. (I love sour candy!). The crap dip appetizer was perfect, and the ingredients of the Reuben sandwich were quality to say the least. Last but not least, our server was attentive and on point the whole night. I was here for dinner with 6 other peeps and this would def be a place I would come back to for any occasion.

I love Old Capitol. Such amazing food, you really cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. There's also an endless selection of craft beers. It has an awesome environment and the staff is always incredibly friendly. If you haven't been here yet, it's worth the stop.

Great food. Great service. Brought a bottle of wine for the group without any corkage fee. Definitely different and trendy for a small town in Sauk Rapids MN. Will definitely come back here again for business dinner. Love the catfish meal I had. My coworkers love the meatloaf they ordered. Their French fries is pretty tasty too.

So I was up in St. Cloud for a business trip on March 20-21, 2013. A friend suggested we go to the Old Capital Tavern. All I can say this is a rare gem in the area! If you're anywhere close to Sauk Rapids, you have to stop by here. They pretty much have a wall of beer. Andy F. is the best server! He has made several food and drink recommendations and hasn't steer us wrong. We started with Capital Nachos, topped with steak, jalapeno and roasted red pepper cheese sauce, pico de gallo, and sour cream. There was plenty to share and it was good. I ordered the Jambalaya Linguini, which consisted of Sausage, chorizo, chicken, and shrimp, sautéed with bell peppers and onions. It was very tasty but unlike most Jambalyas (not in a bad way). The food and service from Andy was so good, we decided to come back on Thursday, March 20th! It was much more busy on Thursday night, probably because of all the Minnesota Clerks and Finance Officers who came to St Cloud for the annual conference. We had to wait for a bigger table to accommodate our group, but that was okay because Andy served us yet again. This guy is so good, he remembered what we ordered the night before and was able to make recommendations based on our previous night's order! What a memory! This time I had to try the Four Alarm Pig's Ass Masterpiece. No really. That's what it's called. How could you not order that? It's slow-cooked pulled pork butt (I said butt), house-made spicy nitro stout BBQ sauce, spicy giariniera veggies, pepper jack cheese, all served on a baguette. And let me tell you, it's darn good. If I could give Old Capital Tavern and Andy hire marks I would, but check it out for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

Great beer selection, but the food and service is what will keep us coming back. Cajun catfish mash was so flavorful and the caramel toffee cake was best dessert I have ever eaten. You won't be disappointed.

This is my happy place...best beer selection for 100 miles or more, great menu prepared by talented chefs and served by friendly and knowledgable staff. A bucket list must if you are anywhere near the area!

Old Capital Tavern how do I love thee? Let me count the ways: I love your great and ever changing beer selection; I love your even better whiskey selection; I love your small but diverse menu of southern influenced dishes; I love your quality ingredients and great layered flavors; I love your decor that doesn't involve antique junk on the walls or 60 TVs; I love your balcony which is perfect for bringing a group of out of guests; I love your staff who are smart, suggestive, and smiley; I love that you an awesome addition to my my hometown. I love that you are something different in this land of 10,000 chain restaurants.
